ARE YOU CONFUSED ABOUT THE MOT EXTENSION?
Here’s what you need to know:
- If your MOT was due between 30 March and 31 July 2020 the certificate is extended for a further six months.
- Even if you make use of the extension you must make sure your car is in a roadworthy condition to be covered by your insurance.
- If your MOT is due from 1 August 2020 onwards you must get a test certificate to continue driving your vehicle.
- You can book in for an MOT 30 days before it’s due and it will keep the same renewal date.
- You can ask your MOT garage if they will collect your car if you’re self-isolating.
- You can also leave your car without a valid MOT if you’re self-isolating and it is not being driven by someone else.
- When you are able to get your car tested you can drive it to an MOT station as long as it is booked in. Make sure you tell the garage that it is out of date and they will take your registration just in case you are stopped.
- If your road tax is due while you are self-isolating you can make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) as long as it is kept off-road.
We recommend booking your MOT as soon as possible. MOT test centres will be very busy due to the high demand created by the extension.
